A Poem: She Gets It

She understands now and she breathes deep.

She understands the strength people refer to. She understands the pain that runs deep and the hurt that lingers.

She didn’t ask for any of it, but she endured all of it, and she’s different because of it.

She gets it.

She understands darkness.

She has faced the brutality of this world.

Somehow, somewhere, she’s still standing.

She sees the light breaking through the dark parts of her life.

She knows very well that the world is not done with it’s ways, but she has tasted it’s sting.

She will not be consumed.

She was convinced she would be.

She’s not where she wants to be, but she’s not the same person she was either.

SHE understands now and she breathes in deep.

She understands the strength people refer to. She understands the pain that runs deep and the hurt that lingers.

She didn’t ask for any of it, but she endured all of it, and she’s different because of it.

She gets it.
