A lot can happen in one year,

she knows this to be true.

Life can be flipped upside down in a year.

People can break your heart in a year.

Your outlook on life can change in a year.

The relationships you once had can change in a year.

Pain, joy, hardship, and healing can coexist together in a year,

she knows this be true.

She has fought hard to get to where she is.

She is still wounded,

but she’s okay.

She may not know what is next,

but she takes a deep breath.

This time, this breath isn’t an exhale because life caught her by surprise,

this time, this breath, is a deep inhale.

She inhales new beginnings,

a completely new year, unlike the last.

365 days ahead,

She thinks she’s ready to embrace this new year,

in hopes to reclaim the last.

She may walk with a limp,
