Denson Family Update- July 2021

Hello there friend,

If you and I were sitting face-to-face over coffee I’d have so much to catch you up on so I thought an overdue blog post would suffice.

During our time together I would be excited to share with you (if you hadn’t missed it already on my social media platforms) that our family has recently made some BIG life changes. A few months ago, Robbie and I prayed and sought counsel about our desire to move back to Charleston, SC to be closer to both of our families. In this season of our lives, we both felt strongly that we wanted our children to grow up near their cousins and grandparents. We moved up to Asheville, NC 6 years ago to help be a part of a church plant, The Gathering Church. The Gathering Church was by far one of the best decisions we ever made! We helped build and be a part of an amazing church plant and fortunately had the privilege of seeing so much life change in that city. God taught us so much during our time there. We are who we are today because of our experience in AVL and willingness to say yes to God and hard things! After we felt the strong nudge to head into what was next for our family and say goodbye to our “home away from home”, we shared with staff and friends, and we’re supported so kindly. They sent us off with such love and care…

Long story short, we sold our house at the beginning of May and then a few weeks later we moved back home to the lowcountry. We’ve been in our new home for almost two months now. Before we left officially for Charleston, we were advised by our counselor that it would be wise to take a month to rest as a family. We have never done anything like this before. We decided with our counselor that we wouldn’t accept any jobs for the month of June and we would be very wise in how we filled our time. We would prioritize REST.

I am so incredibly glad we decided to do this. It’s been a really cool opportunity to be home as a family, fill our time with fun activities, and catch up on time with extended family. Our counselor mentioned that this is a rare opportunity that we are able to have at home and she encouraged us to take advantage of it while we can. We have spent many days at the pool, both individually taking time for self-care, going on date nights, going back and forth between family’s houses and cooking/hosting people in our new neighborhood. I even got to celebrate my first girl’s night for my birthday in our new home and Robbie has really been getting into playing disc golf with his brothers. The week after we moved into our home we had a huge beautiful rainbow show up over our house and It was such a sweet reminder of God’s promises.

During our time of “rest”, we’ve been praying about what our future would look like. Where was Robbie going to work and where were we going to land within a church? We attended several churches, we kept praying and seeking God and felt confident God was going to put us where he wanted us. Nearing the end of June, Robbie was presented with a opportunity at Awaken Church to step into a new position as their lead pastor of ministries. It felt like a perfect fit and an amazing opportunity so we said yes (again)!

We are so excited to be back in our hometown and be involved in a church that is obviously making a difference in Charleston and has a desire for people to know Jesus. We have know idea what the next few months will hold but we are grateful to be a part of something bigger than ourselves again….

Denson Boys Update: All three boys are adjusting well. They miss their old friends in Asheville but they’ve been enjoying going to the pool and seeing family so much. I can tell they have found a healthy balance of understanding change as they go through it at an older age. I am proud of the growth they are all making even when it’s hard. Makai is doing boxing. Josiah is doing soccer. And Ahngel will be doing a basketball and student ministry camp soon.

As we end our “coffee time”/ catching up on life together, I wish I could give you a big hug and say thank you for reading.

The Denson Family loves you and we are oh so grateful for your continual support!
